It's All About You Interview With Susie Verrill

It's All About You Interview With Susie Verrill

Susie Verril soon to be mother of two enjoys sharing her down to earth and often humorous insights into motherhood especially on lifestyle and fashion. As you'll see from her interview and social media updates she often has to abandon a regular routine for lots of new adventures as Susie and other half athlete Greg Rutherford don't always live a 9 - 5 lifestyle. Susie will be on our style panel at the GOT THIS - Style event on 23rd June to discuss maternity and nursing/new mum style to help raise money for Bliss Charity.

My favourite out OUT look:

Pleather! It’s wipe-clean (so should you get any stains on them before you head out, it’s no bother cleaning them). They look a little more daring than standard skinny jeans/dress and they hold you in in all the right places.

My favourite in IN look:

An oversized shirt and cropped skinny jeans teamed with trainers. Comfy, breastfeeding friendly (if you need that) and no fuss.

Knackered mama style tip:

Get ready as early as possible in the day, don’t let the morning drag on before you can muster up the energy otherwise there’s a very big chance you won’t bother at all! Getting yourself sorted pronto gives you a little kick in your step and you’ll feel like you’ve achieved something by 8am

Palm print or florals?

Palm print. Can’t say I’m a huge fan of florals!

Flamingos or pineapples?

Pineapples.

Parenting rule you’ve abandoned:

Routine! We’re not your typical household where there’s a school run or a parent who works 9am-5pm. We travel a lot, take Milo with us to dine out, throw early bedtimes out the window so we can all indulge in a lie-in and nothing’s really ever been structured. It’s not for everyone, it just works for our lifestyle because we genuinely don’t know where we’ll be from one week to the next occasionally, but it does mean Milo’s never done the whole throwing-a-wobbler-in-public-because-he-needs-his-bed thing. He’s used to going with the flow.

Last time you had a full night's sleep (over 7 hours):

I don’t think I’ve had that since my son was born! He breastfed ’til he was 2 and 4 months (which included night feeds right up until the bitter end) and by then I was pregnant so being uncomfortable’s meant I’m getting very little shut eye!

The first thing you do once the kids hit the sack:

Catch up on work, grab the snacks I’ve been hiding, scroll through social media and occasionally try to pick up that book I’ve been reading for four months.

If motherhood were a cocktail it would be called:

Never Easy Always Worth It

Has a hangover since having a child ever been worth it?

I’ve not had a hangover since having a child; I’m an appalling light weight and I just haven’t been able to face it. I’ll stick with the one beer and a clear head thank you!

Favourite thing your kid/s says:

Milo’s two and a half and currently coming out with the most wonderful sentences. My favourites at the moment are ‘I love you mummy, so much the world’ and also ‘mummy, do you see the problem?’ whenever there’s something he can’t solve.

24hrs without the kid/s, what’s your plan?

Right now, with 5 weeks to go before I give birth, I’d indulge in a spa day with lots of quiet and down time. No running around or chasing after anyone, just getting in to a comfy position and reading a couple of good books. Or watching a film all the way through without any interruptions! Then a nice, long sleep to catch up on the two and a half years worth I’ve missed out on...

Essential item for motherhood survival:

Jumperoo. When you need it, gosh you’ll be grateful.

Would you put on make up to go and buy make-up wipes?

No. In the last few months I’ve been really focusing on my skincare routine and spent a bit more cash than I ordinarily would have done in the past on decent products. I was so unwell during the early stages of this pregnancy that I craved getting back to ‘normal’ so treated myself and it’s been one of the best things I’ve ever done! Now I’ve invested in some great products, I actually feel happy enough to go around without make-up on and I’d gladly dash to the shops naked-faced. Not for face wipes though, those things are awful!

Most embarrassing motherhood moment:

Being on live TV watching my other half compete and having seven week old Milo poo through his entire outfit. I had to sliiiiide my hand over the ever growing stain and then dash off as soon as I knew I wasn’t being filmed anymore.

Mama super hero power you would choose:

I’d add at LEAST seven arms on to my body.

What do you wish you’d been told about motherhood beforehand?

That the first few months of first time motherhood are bloody hard. I think it’s only when you look back that you feel like a bit of a champion; while you’re in it, you feel as though you should be coping/enjoying all of it. That’s not the case at all. It’s tough! Let it be that way and don’t feel bad for missing your old life/wishing you could sleep/asking for help.

Three words to describe yourself:

Relaxed, silly, optimistic.

Exciting upcoming plans:

Baby number two! I’m really looking forward to actually knowing (a bit more) what I’m doing this time around and that makes it more exciting than nerve-wracking. While completely unprepared with regards to nursery/cot/pram, I actually feel *much* more prepared mentally. Taking it easy, knowing not to have an influx of visitors immediately, giving up some of the responsibilities to my other half and the grandparents… it’s all things you learn. I’m also really excited with how my blog and social media’s progressing these days and the brands I’m working with, plus there’s lots more travel on the horizon. As a family we’re all about having fun and there’s lots more to do be had.

Why do Mama’s Rule?

Because even when we’re feeling and looking our absolute worst, we’re trying our best for the benefit of someone else.
